Building your own route

Building Your Own Route If you lack the large capital investment or are hesitant to commit yourself to the responsibilities of an existing route, we feel that there is a second approach that most vendors need to be more comfortable using.

The traditional means of starting a vending route is accomplished by independently securing one location at a time. A vending operator needs to learn how to become confident in their ability to sell their services to a location on their own. Start by writing a script to introduce yourself to the location and ask to set up a survey of the location. Call upon locations you feel meet your profile for the size of machines you want to place at the location. Get to know the person at the door of the location they can usually assist in getting you to the right person. ( A free bag of chips or candy to the right person can go a long way.) Once you get in the door don't get to pushy with your services the 1st meeting is to get to know the person in charge and get a feel for their satisfaction with their current vending services.

Also remember to not bite off more then you can handle just because the location is as big as general motors does not mean you can provide the service they are looking for at this time. Make sure you build your company at a pace that works for you and not one that hurts your business. If you use a location company make sure you know what you are getting!!! Just because they call themselves a location company does not mean that the locations they have are what you are looking for.

Number one rule is GO LOOK AT THE LOCATION YOURSELF AND MEET THE CONTACT THERE. If they say no you can't do this then get away from them fast. Remember its your money paying for this service and its your right to see what the location is all about before paying for it. If you are really wanting to build your business then you need to learn the business and that means finding and securing locations.

Check with your local community college and see if they have a public speaking class or a basic sales class. Building your own route and working with your customers is the best way to make it work.
